Happy Friday from Ombi! The entire restaurant is basking in the glow of a sold-out Albert Seltz Vineyard Wine Tasting Thursday night. We're also gearing up for a patio-friendly Steeplechase Saturday -- the always topical and tropical bar manager Terry Raley is featuring peach juleps for just $7 -- as well as preparing for an extra-special Mother's Day Sunday. Remember we're one of the few independent restaurants in town that's open on Sunday nights, so bring Mommy and we'll promise to take care of her, and you. And to make it extra special, we're debuting our new menu this weekend!

Greetings! Laura here, settling in after a hectic but rewarding several days. First off, stay tuned this weekend: Our splendid new sous chef, Cooper Brunk, and I are testing out recipes for a new menu, now that spring looks like it's finally arrived, just in time for summer! Every special this weekend and beyond will be tasted, tested and reviewed, with the keepers going on the new menu. And the fine weather also means we'll be featuring our patio, our 4-7 pm happy hour Mon-Sat, and some of our ever-talented bar manager Terry Raley's refreshing concoctions. (More on that in a bit.)

Hello! It's Laura at Ombi. It's been a busy Friday -- I just got back from appearing on Holly Thompson's "More at Midday." I did our barbecued oysters while promoting Dining Out for Life, which takes place next Tuesday, April 29. You don't HAVE to eat here that night, but please eat somewhere! Sixty local restaurants are participating, and it all goes to a great cause in Nashville CARES.

Well, we've had quite a week! Kim's last day was Thursday (Valentine's Day) so it was a heckuva last day. Best wishes to Kim and her journeys in Provence. Monday be sure to come to the benefit for the Tennessee Tornado Victims through the Red Cross. We'll be donating 10% of all sales Monday, so please come support a local cause.

I love classic cocktails as well as updated variations on the theme. There is a reason classic cocktails are considered classic. Because they rock! There is no such thing as an apple martini, it's a shooter in a glass.....

On my day off, usually on Wednesday, I have the good fortune of living near Sweet 16th bakery in East Nashville, and Dan sharing his copy of the New York Times Food section. Of course I only read the New York Times food section after I've finished the Tennessean food section. (support local first) On April 11, Eric Asimov wrote an article about learning to taste wine, and it described how I was introduced to wine tasting.
